Shoes
A whole garbage bag of them. This was the weirdest thing I found today. I knew there was some garbage in the ditch, but I had no idea it was this bad until I started clearing back the brush and ferns.
basic floor plan July 21, 2012
First I will build the front room and use it as a workshop and place to camp out while working on the rest. I am hoping to have the first part finished by the end of the year. It will not require permits for the first part, but I plan on overbuilding it. I have a book coming especially made for going through the process of getting approval for a cordwood home. Wish me luck because there is plenty that could go wrong between point A and point B.
Betterboy hybrid (I think) still hanging on
Despite damage this tomato keeps on producing and is recovering nicely after the heat wave.
Angel
Lucky little grandog is a little snip of Angel getting a new bone from her grandma (my mother-in-law), Gisel.
Beefsteak tomato plant
This beefsteak tomato has not held up very well at all and produced very few tomatoes. It was the first to be eaten by bugs, the first to wilt in the heat, and produced the least amount of fruit. The fruit it did produce will only last a couple of days, once ripe, before spoiling. Bottom line, I will not be growing this variety again next year and will most likely pull this plant soon.
Cherry tomato plant
This cherry tomato keeps on growing and producing, despite having many of the lower branches eaten by caterpillars. The small fruit is tangy, sweet, and keeps well. This is a variety I would like to grow again!
Cherry tomato
This picture is as much so I don’t forget by next year as anything else. It is the tag from the cherry tomato plant that has done so well despite adverse conditions.
Lemon
This is one of the lemons. Please also note the bug on the leaf below and to the right of the lemon. I see several of these but am not sure what they are. This is my first experience with caring for any type of citrus. From what I understand they do not hold up to even light frost and should be kept potted and moved inside for the winter. We got this one from my sister-in-law. It did not produce much of anything before she gave it to me, but thanks to some tips from one of my clients it is doing nice and has 8 lemons on it. For other citrus keepers in my area here is some information on diseases and helping to stop the spread http://www.saveourcitrus.org/ Backyard growers in this area should keep their fruit at home and inspect trees/bushes often for signs of disease.
Lemon and asparagus
I actually managed to spell asparagus correctly, or at least my spell check didn’t underline it. Anyway, on the left is my lemon tree (more of a bush if you ask me) and on the right is my asparagus. I started the asparagus late in the spring of 2011. It ended up in a container because I wasn’t sure where to put it, and I’m kind of glad now because I will not have to dig it up to move it. You can see a little of the eucalyptus tree overhead. This tree by the patio really helps keep the bugs away.
